What Docmend processes

When you use a tool, Docmend downloads the Google Doc open in your tab (as .docx or .pdf) using your existing Google sign-in, and reads PDF files you choose. All processing happens inside your browser.

What we receive

By default, nothing: PDF import, Word check and PDF export run entirely in your browser.

Review links (only if you create one)

When you click “Create review link”, Docmend uploads a read-only copy of that Doc (text, formatting and images) to our server so the people you send the link to can read it. Anyone with the link can view the copy and add notes or a signature. Notes store the name the reviewer types, their note, and the selected text; signatures store the signature image and name. You can stop accepting notes or delete the link at any time from Docmend, which permanently removes the copy, its notes and signatures from our server. We never use these documents for anything else.

Signature requests (only if you send one)

When you send a document for signature, the PDF, your name and email, and your client’s name and email are stored on our server so your client can open and sign it. When they sign, we record the time, their IP address and browser for the signing certificate, store the signed PDF, and email it to you both. You can cancel a request at any time, which deletes its PDF files from our server.

Website visit counts

This website counts page views and button clicks anonymously, without cookies. We store the page, the referring website and a daily-rotating code that can’t be traced back to your IP address. When you install or remove the extension, Chrome opens a page on this site, which is how we count installs and uninstalls. The optional reason you pick on the goodbye page is stored the same way.

Payments and licenses

Pro is sold through Lemon Squeezy, our merchant of record. When you activate Pro, your license key and a device label (for example “Docmend · Windows”) are sent to Lemon Squeezy to confirm the license. Their privacy policy covers your purchase.

Stored on your device

Your license key and a monthly usage counter are kept in Chrome’s extension storage. Uninstalling Docmend removes them.

Permissions

Docmend only runs on docs.google.com. The optional “debugger” permission is used only to type comments into the Google Doc you are viewing, and only while an import is running.
