How do I get a photo under 100 KB for an online form?
Use the free image tools on docmend.app, the Docmend Chrome extension’s document tools site. On Compress image to 100 KB, choose the photo (JPG, PNG, WebP or HEIC), keep 100 KB, and click Resize. It lowers JPG quality step by step until it fits, and the JPG downloads with its size shown. The photo never leaves your device.
The image tools are free, with no limits and no watermark, and all of them run in your browser, so those files are not uploaded. Go straight to Compress image to 100 KB, or use Photo resize in KB if your form asks for a different size.
How to get a photo under 100 KB
- Open Compress image to 100 KB in your browser on your phone or computer.
- Choose the photo (JPG, PNG, WebP or iPhone HEIC).
- 100 KB is already picked. Change it if your form asks for another size.
- Click Resize. The new JPG downloads with its size shown.
Worked example: three photos we tested
On we ran the live Compress image to 100 KB tool in Chrome on three free-to-use sample photos from Wikimedia Commons (public domain or CC0), with 100 KB picked. All three came out under 100 KB as JPGs, each in under a second.
| Photo | Start size | Final size | Pixels |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sunset on Mars (NASA, public domain) | 975 KB | 95 KB | Not reduced: 2486 × 1914 px kept |
| Blue Marble, Western Hemisphere (NASA, public domain) | 2.6 MB | 98 KB | Reduced: 3718 × 3718 → 1340 × 1340 px |
| Football match photo (CC0) | 4.7 MB | 100 KB | Reduced: 4608 × 3456 → 2280 × 1711 px |
The smallest photo only needed a lower JPG quality. The two bigger ones also had to get smaller in pixels to fit. Sizes are as the tool shows them, where 1 KB is 1,024 bytes; the largest result is 101,939 bytes. If a form still says the file is too big, it may count 1 KB as 1,000 bytes, so pick a slightly lower size, such as 95 KB, under Other. These are public-domain and CC0 sample photos, not user files. For more results, see our compression benchmark of 30 files.
When not to use it: if your form also sets a minimum size or exact pixels, use Exam photo and signature instead, which keeps the file between its minimum and maximum KB at the exact pixel size. If the form gives pixel dimensions but no KB limit, the free image resizer sizes a photo to exact pixels, centimetres or a percentage.
Common questions
How do I get a photo under 100 KB for an online form?
Use the free image tools on docmend.app, the Docmend Chrome extension’s document tools site. On Compress image to 100 KB, choose the photo (JPG, PNG, WebP or HEIC), keep 100 KB, and click Resize. It lowers JPG quality step by step until it fits, and the JPG downloads with its size shown. The photo never leaves your device.
Will the photo still look sharp?
Docmend lowers the JPG quality step by step until the file fits, and only makes the picture smaller in pixels if it still doesn’t fit. You get the sharpest version that is under the limit.
My form also has a minimum size. What do I do?
Use Exam photo and signature: pick the form and Docmend keeps the file between its minimum and maximum KB at the exact pixel size.
Can I pick a size other than 100 KB?
Yes. On Photo resize in KB, click Other and type any size in KB.
Are my photos uploaded?
No. Docmend works on the picture inside your browser, so it never leaves your phone or computer.
