Can a client sign a PDF without creating an account?

By the Docmend team · Updated 2026-10-10

Short answer

Yes. You upload the PDF in Docmend, place the signature boxes, and send one signing link. The client opens that link in any browser, draws or types a signature, and clicks Finish. They do not create an account and they do not install Docmend. The Docmend Chrome extension is free on the Chrome Web Store.

Many signing tools still ask the recipient to sign up. Docmend’s Send for signature path does not. See also how to get a Google Doc signed, how both sides get the signed PDF and how to get someone to sign a document online for free.

How to do it

  1. Add Docmend to Chrome from the Chrome Web Store. It is free and needs no account.
  2. After it opens, upload the PDF in the Docmend side panel, or open a Google Doc and choose Send for signature (Docmend turns the Doc into a PDF).
  3. Tap where the client should sign. You can also add name and date boxes.
  4. Enter the client’s email, or copy the signing link and send it yourself.
  5. The client opens the link, draws or types a signature, and clicks Finish. No account and nothing to install.
